Game Rules

Grades 3-5
Grades 6-9

If games are played against Canton, the rule for pitchers will be they can pitch a maximum of three innings but those innings must be consecutive. You can not pitch a girl for an inning or two at the beginning of the game and then pull her out until the last inning.

As much as possible, during the regular season, the program encourages coaches to rotate girls so that they have an opportunity to play both infield and outfield positions as well as bat throughout the order.

PONY
Since Sharon began hosting softball tournaments in 2008, it has used the same adult umpire organization. These adult umpires, which also umpire our 6-9 recreation games, are a crucial part of our tournament's success doing a fantastic job umpiring each and every game. This particular umpire organization switched its affiliation to PONY in 2013. The continuity of umpiring is paramount and to keep using this umpire organization, Sharon decided to switch to PONY beginning in 2013.

Take a look at the 2104 PONY Rulebook.

Call Ups - Grade 3-5
Each 3-5 grade head coach will be given a complete roster of 2nd grade players. In the event a team will not have enough players to field a team, a head coach can “call up” players from the 2nd grade program to get to 10 to 11 players. A team that does not call up players and cannot field at least 8 players will forfeit the game. If both teams fail to have a minimum of 8 players both teams will forfeit the game and be credited with a loss.

Call Ups - Grade 6-9
Each 6-9 grade head coach will be given a complete roster of 3-5 grade players. In the event a team will not have enough players to field a team, a head coach can “call up” players from the 3-5 grade program to get to 10 to 11 players. A team that does not call up players and cannot field at least 8 players will forfeit the game. If both teams fail to have a minimum of 8 players both teams will forfeit the game and be credited with a loss.

Playoff Rules
  • Call ups can only be used for teams with nine or less players.
  • Call ups can’t pitch or catch.
  • The lower ranked team receives the first call up request if both teams need a call up.

Rainouts/Weather
The 3-5 and 6-9 coordinators will make every effort to contact each coach before 4:00 PM if there is the possibility or probability of a rainout. Under some circumstances games will not be called until we convene at the field. If a game is rained out the head coaches must request a makeup game from the League Coordinator.

The coordinator shall reschedule the game and notify the coaches within 48 hours of such rainout. The only reason to cancel a game is due to weather. All games will be played when scheduled. If a team does not have enough players, coaches shall secure a substitute(s) in accordance with the call up procedures above. It is the responsibility of the coach to ensure the team has enough players for each game.
